TRIMASTER EL technology is a design architecture that enables the highest level of colour accuracy, precision imaging, and picture-quality consistency. Because the EL (Electro-Luminescence) layer inherently responds to any electrical current input, it emits light immediately. Sony OLED provides the colour gamut specifications of the main broadcast standards: ITU-R BT.709, EBU and SMPTE-C.

High-purity deep colour reproduction

Sony’s Super Top Emission technology uses micro-cavity and colour filters. The micro-cavity structure uses an optical resonance effect and the colour filters enhance the colour purity of each RGB colour. The technology also reduces ambient light reflection, so deep colour reproduction can be achieved without degradation, even in bright environments.

Uniformity of image across screen

The PVM-1741 monitor incorporates a newly-developed OLED processor to bring out the full performance of the Sony OLED panels. This OLED processor offers superb uniformity across the whole screen. At the factory, the OLED panel uniformity is precisely measured and corrected using a sophisticated RGB LUT (Look-Up Table) adjustment system.

Selection of four I/P modes

The PVM-1741 monitor provides four I/P modes so that users can select the most suitable mode for their purpose:

• Inter-field:
  This mode interpolates images between fields. This is used for optimum picture quality reproduction , for example, to reduce the jagged effect on moving pictures.



• Intra-field:
  This mode interpolates images within the field, and delivers naturally reproduced images and lower video delay. This mode is available for 1920 x 1080 SDI signal input.
• Field merge:
This mode combines lines alternately in odd and even fields, regardless of picture movements. This is used for PsF (Progressive Segmented Frame) processing and still image monitoring.

• Line Doubler: This mode interpolates by repeating each line. This is used for editing and monitoring fast-moving images and checking line flicker. The minimum processing time is less than one field (0.5 frames).

Maximum flexibility with lightweight compact design

The PVM-1741 incorporates a lightweight, compact metal body. It supports VESA mounting of 100 mm pitch and an EIA 19-inch standard rack mount. Although the monitor has its own display stand, an optional stand SU-561 is available for height and tilt picture adjustment. These features make the monitor ideal for use in a variety of applications, such as desktop editing, office viewing, studio monitor walls, or installing in an OB van.

Easy-to-use control panel

A rotary-type switch and seven function-assignable buttons allow users speedy and intuitive operation. Operation buttons with LED indicators enable error-free operation, even in dark environments. The LED lights can be switched on and off, as required.

Variety of standard inputs

The PVM-1741 is equipped with built-in standard input interfaces: 2 x 3G/HD/SD-SDI; 1 x HDMI input; 1 x analogue composite.

Audio monitoring

The input signal’s waveform with a 2-channel audio level meter can be displayed on screen. When an SDI interface is connected, the embedded audio level can be displayed on screen with an 8-channel audio level meter.

Time code display

A time code superimposed on SDI signals can be displayed on screen. Users can select either LTC or VITC.

Automatic adjustment of white balance

The PVM-1741 monitor employs a software-based white balance calibration function called AutoWhiteBalance. Combined with a PC and commercially available calibration tool*, this enables simple adjustment of the monitor’s white balance.

External remote control

The PVM-1741 has an external remote control capability for input/output signal selection and adjustment of various items via Ethernet (10BASE-T/100BASETX) connection. Up to 32 monitors and up to four control units can be connected via Ethernet connection and controlled remotely on the network. The PVM-2541 also supports some (though not all) of the functions of the BKM-16R – an optional remote control unit for BVM-E/BVM-L/PVM-L Series monitors – such as power on/off switch and Input Select function.

To provide mobility, the PVM-740 incorporates various video interfaces as standard, including composite, SDI interface for SD-SDI, HD-SDI, 3G-SDI, and HDMI interface. With the 3G-SDI interface, PVM-740 accepts 1080/50p and 1080/60p formats, which is compliant with the SMPTE 425 standard, transmitting up to 4:2:2/10-bit 1080/60p and 1080/50p video data using one SDI cable. When an upgrade to these 1080/p systems is required, this single-link 3G-SDI* system is ideal, future-proof solution.

* The SD-SDI, HD-SDI and 3G SDI inputs share the same BNC connector, which offers automatic signal detection.

3G-SDI Input

The PVM-740 monitor has a 3G-SDI input capability as standard. On Sony's monitors, the 3G-SDI interface is compliant with the SMPTE 425 standard, transmitting up to 4:2:2/10-bit 1080/60P video data using one SDI cable. This single-link system is known as a SD-SDI or HD-SDI system, but it can also handle both Dual-Link HD-SDI and 3G-SDI video data with the use of Sony's 3G-SDI interface. This 3G-SDI interface enables the PVM-740 monitor to accept 50P and 60P* video data. Where an upgrade to a Dual-Link HD-SDI system is necessary, this single-link 3G-SDI system is also the ideal alternative.

* 50P/60P images are reproduced without the delay caused by the I/P-conversion process.

HDMI Input

HDMI connectivity can expand user convenience and applications. For example, the PVM-740 monitor can connect with a professional video system such as an XDCAM, XDCAM-EX, NXCAM, or HDV system. Furthermore, consumer video products like a Blu-ray or digital camera can also be connected, which is ideal for video authoring or photo image previews.

Accurate colour reproduction and consistency

Every PVM-740 monitor is precisely colour-calibrated at the factory, providing characteristics consistent with those of CRT monitors so that the R, G, B colour coordinates are virtually the same as those of a CRT monitor.

As Sony’s Super Top EmissionTM OLED display panel itself reproduces high-purity colours and in combination with the 10-bit panel driver and Sony’s ChromaTRU technology, the PVM-740 monitor can emulate the colours and gammas of CRT monitors, and achieves broadcast standards (SMPTE-C, EBU, and ITU-R BT.709).

Sophisticated I/P Conversion

PVM-740 uses a motion-adaptive I/P-conversion process to achieve conversion results that are optimized to the picture content – whether the image is static or dynamic. Highly accurate I/P conversion of both HD and SD inputs are provided regardless of signal resolution.

Camera focus function

The PVM-740 can control and increase the aperture level of a video signal, and display images on the screen with sharpened edges to help camera focus operation. This camera focus function can even be enhanced when combined with native scan mode.

Waveform Monitor and Audio Level Meter Display*

An input signal’s waveform with a 2-channel audio level meter can be displayed on screen. When an SDI interface is connected, the embedded audio level can be displayed on screen with an 8-channel audio level meter.

*The PVM-740 supports the on-screen audio level meter when it receives an SDI-embedded audio signal.

Video Flip Function

The PVM-740 monitor has a feature to flip a picture without frame delay, horizontally, vertically, or horizontally and vertically. This feature is useful and beneficial – for example, when using a 3D image acquisition system with a 3D rig camera and a pair of 2D monitors, the monitors can be hooked up to the camera systems directly with no need for an external signal convertor. This allows for much simpler system integration and greater cost efficiency.

Advanced Marker Settings

The PVM-740 monitor can display various area markers, including a centre marker and aspect markers. The brightness of these markers can be selected from three different levels: white, grey, and dark grey. Users can also select either a black or grey matte to fill the outer area of the aspect markers. These flexible marker controls, together with the choice of many different aspect markers, make the PVM-740 monitor extremely convenient display device for a variety of shooting scenarios.

Assignable control panel functions keys

The PVM-740 incorporates a new control-function design. By assigning monitor functions* to each of its seven function buttons respectively, users can customize the PVM-740 for a specific application or usage such as field and studio use.

Colour Temperature Selection

Colour temperatures of 9300k, 6500k, or a user preset value can be selected.

Scan Setting and Native Scan Display

Scan size can be selected between Normal scan, 5% over scan, and Native scan modes. The aspect ratio can be switched between 16:9 and 4:3 according to the input signal.

The Native Scan function is a unique display mode that reproduces images without changing the input signal’s pixel count – mapping the pixel of the input signal on the panel pixel-to-pixel.

Three-colour Tally

The PVM-740 comes equipped with a tally lamp that can be lit via a parallel remote connector. The status of the signal displayed on the monitor can be identified by the tally colour - red, green, or amber.

Parallel and Serial Remote Control

The PVM-740 monitor can be controlled remotely via a parallel and serial remote connector. There are 27 functions in the parallel remote menu (such as the ability to switch input signals), of which eight can be allocated to the connector. The serial remote controls are supported via the Ethernet command. Up to 32 monitors and up to four control units can be connected via Ethernet connection and controlled remotely on the network.

Audio Monitoring

The PVM-740 is equipped with a headphone jack and a monaural speaker (0.5 W), which enable the user to monitor audio.

Power-saving Mode

When no input signal is received for over a minute, the monitor goes into power-saving mode and consumes minimal power. This function prevents unnecessary electrical consumption.

Silent Mode

This convenient function enables users to stop the built-in cooling fan, achieving monitor operation without any fan rotation noise. Silent mode is ideal when noises must be avoided.

Protected Controls

The key-inhibit function helps prevent inadvertent operation from the control panel.

19-inch EIA Standard Rack

The PVM-740 is 4U high and half-rack wide. Using the optional MB-531 Mounting Bracket with a 10-degree-forward and 10-degree-backward nonstop-tilt capability, two units can be installed side by side in a 19-inch EIA standard rack.

Screw holes for Camera Pedestal

The PVM-740 monitor has 3/8-inch and 1/4-inch screw holes on the bottom. These allow the PVM-740 monitor to be installed in a camera system, for example, by mounting it on a camera pedestal. The PVM-740 can also control and increase the aperture level of a video signal to help camera focus operation.

Optional ENG Kit available

The PVM-740 is a strategic choice for use in ENG and EFP field operations. Its picture contrast, compared to that of a CRT display, is less affected by ambient light, allowing clear images to be viewed even in strong sunlight. For further protection, the optional VF-510 ENG Kit provides a viewing hood, carrying handle, and connector protector.

The BVM-E170 monitor uses a sophisticated I/P conversion technique that keeps artefacts that are often seen in flat panel displays to a minimum such as edge jaggedness, conversion errors, etc.

Picture & Picture modes

BVM-E170 master monitor incorporates gamma tables to reproduce images captured using S-LOG Gamma technology. S-LOG gamma is a technique used in Sony’s digital cinematography cameras that allows the full latitude of the camera CCD to be maintained throughout the production chain.

2K Picture Resolution

The 2048 Image Slide function of the BVM-E170 allows 2K resolution (2048 x 1080 pixels) images to be mapped, pixel-to-pixel, on the full-HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) panel without picture degradation.

HD Frame Capture Mode

The HD Frame Capture function of the BVM-F Series allows a picture frame from the 3G-SDI and HD-SDI input to be captured and saved as a picture file on a Memory Stick™ media.

Separate Control unit with memory stick slot

A separate control unit BKM-16R is available for the BVM-E170. It is equipped with a Memory Stick socket enables users to download and save all monitor set-ups such as input channel configuration, control preset adjustments, white balance settings and maintenance parameters.

Centralised Monitor-Wall Control

Multiple monitors can be easily managed by a single control unit BKM-16R via an Ethernet connection.

TelePrompters
A teleprompter allows a presenter to look into the camera lens as they are reading a script from a reflected screen that the camera doesn't pick up. Most teleprompters or 'Autocues' are for use in the studio but i-Prompters can be used anywhere!

The fully customisable prompting screen display, together with ultra smooth text scrolling adapts to both landscape and portrait modes with mirrored or standard text alignments.

With the correct font choice and the i-Control wired controller, text can be viewed and controlled from up to 3 metres away giving the user the script management they need.

By using pro 60/40 beam splitting glass the Datavision i-Prompter is ideal for daylight viewing. i-Pad can be mounted either in the traditional way using the included camera and tripod support rails, hood and beam splitter glass, or under the lens for use with retro-reflective light rings.

In addition the i-Prompt Pro software can drive external displays using the VGA or Composite video cables available for the iPad.

High resolution, the 1280x800 pixel LCD display produces sharp high contrast images. Connectivity is included for HD/SD digital signals up to HD-SDI 3G 1080p50/60, plus HDMI, and a full range of analogue signals. Lightweight and Slim, power is supplied either from the AC-DC adaptor supplied, or from the optional battery adaptor kit.
